SodStar Spotlight On People: Adam Horn

At Buy Sod/SodStar, we don’t just grow and provide sod—we cultivate partnerships that drive transformation. In Middle Tennessee, such forward-thinking collaborations are led by Adam Horn, our Territory Business Manager, whose journey from military service to economic strategy has shaped a dynamic approach to helping customers build high-performance turfgrass projects from the ground up.

From Service to Sod: A Path Rooted in Purpose

Originally from Petersburg, Illinois, a rural farming town in the Midwest, Adam was inspired by generations of service—his grandfather, father, and brother—all of whom motivated him to join the U.S. Air Force after high school. During his time in the military, Adam served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Southern Watch, deploying to Afghanistan and Kuwait. That discipline and drive followed him through his academic career at Illinois State University, where he earned a degree in Economics.

After starting his career in the energy and oil industry, Adam saw an opportunity to make a more meaningful impact—and he hasn’t looked back. Now, with nearly four years at Buy Sod / SodStar, Adam is proud to serve as a trusted sod supplier to some of the most high-profile and demanding turfgrass projects in Nashville, Brentwood, Franklin, Murfreesboro, and beyond.

“Every day I’m honored to provide premium sod to customers in Tennessee,” Adam says. “Their passion for delivering high-quality turf solutions inspires me.”

Managing Big Projects with Precision—and Privacy

Adam has had the opportunity to work on exclusive installations for iconic country music artists in the Nashville area, where discretion, quality, and timing are everything.

“I won’t name names,” Adam says with a smile, “but let’s just say he went down yonder on the Chattahoochee.”

Whether it’s high-end residential estates, golf course upgrades, school athletic fields, or municipal projects, Adam understands that behind every successful sod installation is clear communication, careful planning, and strong supplier relationships.

The Turfgrass Industry Is About People

It didn’t take long for Adam to realize that the turfgrass industry is built on trust—not just transactions.

“What surprised me most is how many of my customer relationships have turned into genuine friendships,” he shares. “We call just to say hello. That doesn’t happen in every industry.”

This relational approach is part of what makes Adam—and Buy Sod/SodStar—different. Whether he’s advising on TifTuf Bermuda for a drought-prone site or helping a golf superintendent schedule staggered deliveries of Zeon Zoysia, Adam’s focus is always on the long game: helping customers win.

Off the Clock, All In

When Adam isn’t navigating Tennessee’s turf needs, he’s enjoying what matters most: time with his family. Whether cruising ATVs, canoeing, chasing waterfalls, or cheering on his favorite teams from the couch, Adam’s favorite role is being a husband to Karlee and dad to Dutton, his 1½-year-old son.

“Simply being in their presence gives me a sense of satisfaction that is unmatched,” he says.

Adam’s Advice for Future Turfgrass Pros

“Expect the unexpected and be prepared to think critically. Take your time to process and analyze your customers’ needs to ensure you’re doing your best to serve them and help them accomplish their goals. At the end of the day, we’re one team.”
